We still don't have much information about "Kippy" other than he was produced by Genie Ceramics in Pasadena, CA. In the 1970's, the "Kippy"
character was included as an import item by Norcrest. We assume that production was shifted from the U.S. to overseas as was done with many ceramic productions as the need for cheaper labor was encountered. If anyone has further information on Genie Ceramics or the "Kippy" Pixie, let us know so we can add to our collective knowledge base.
NOTE: "Kippy" is sometimes found spelled
"KIPPEE"...!
"Kippy" always appears as an extremely cheerful, happy-go-lucky
character. He is generally dressed in a combination of yellow and green clothing and his hat has a feather sticking upright on top. Sometimes, however, he is found in a solid color as seen below in Figurine #2. His hands most often have a unique appearance in that they have a "paddle" shape to them. And have you ever noticed how "Kippy" almost always seems to be shown with something musical?

A KIPPEE BAND!
Usual-colored trio of green "Kippee" Pixies playing their musical
instruments - a harp, drums and a sax! This happy group posed for Kristin and are part of her collection.

KIPPEE ASHTRAY
Dark green "Kippee" Pixie dark green ashtray! Also photographed from Kristin's collection.

KIPPEE PLAYING PIANO

KIPPEE FIGURINE #1
Green "Kippee" Pixie in typical colors and style of clothing. This particular figurine has a green cloverleaf on the back side of his head as shown in the photo below! Photograph courtesy of Merry. Thanks Merry, for the wonderful photos!

KIPPY FIGURINE #2
Green "Kippy" Pixie on his stomach. Measures 4 3/4" long. Original foil sticker on bottom proclaims him to the world as "Kippy" - Pasadena. Photograph from my
early collection.

KIPPY AND TURTLE
Kippy rides on back of large turtle. The turtle is actually a "flower frog"! (A "flower frog" is used for floral arrangements to keep stems in place for a balanced arrangement). Measures approximately 7" long (turtle) and an overall 5" high. Only mark is patent number impressed on back of neck. Photographed from my
early collection.

KIPPY WITH GRAMOPHONE
Kippy seems to be expressing his utter delight with his
gramophone as he strums his guitar. Measures approximately 6" across, including the "horn" of the
gramophone; the base is about 2 3/4" square. Unmarked. Photographed from my
early collection.

KIPPY WALL POCKET
Kippy is shown here playing a musical instrument while perched in front of a music G-Cleft as a wall pocket. Wall pocket measures approximately 7 1/4" tall x 4 1/2" wide. While the photo color is rather dark, the one below shows the marks on the back as well as the actual color of the wall pocket itself. Incised: "Genie Ceramics 1952" on the back. Photograph courtesy of Barb - thanks for the photos and helpful information!

KIPPY SALT & PEPPER HOLDERS
There is some question among collectors as to the actual use of this pair. It has been suggested that they are candle holders - however, if you try that, you find that the angle of the holes causes the candles to be precariously tilted. (I tried that and it just didn't work - besides, his nose gets in the way)! My own suspicion is that there originally was a round plastic container container with a plastic lid that sat down in the holes for salt and pepper. Does anyone know for sure??? Each one measures approximately 4 1/2" high and the base is 3" across. The only mark is an impressed patent number on the back of Kippy's neck. This pair photographed from my
earlier collection.
