AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH...

"Shelf Sitters" are the most commonly damaged Pixie collectibles; most have had repairs made to them when arms, legs and even heads have been broken due to falls or being accidentally knocked off a shelf.

To help prevent damage to Pixie "Shelf Sitters" we have driven small-headed nails close to the edge of our display shelves or on a narrow piece of scrap wood when we did not want nails in the actual display shelves. "Shelf Sitters" have a hole in the underside to allow air to escape when in the kiln. This hole accommodates a small-headed nail which will give stability to the item as it must "sit" close to the shelf edge. Make sure the nail length is long enough to nail securely into the board or shelf and also extend up into the Pixie far enough to give stability; measure and mark so the Pixie is positioned correctly for proper sitting.  (Click on small pictures below for larger views).

The pictures below give an idea how we do this. Just be sure to measure carefully so the Pixie is seated "naturally"! If using a piece of wood as we did, cover the wood with fabric. Using a bit of "tacky" clay product on the bottom will help keep the "Shelf Sitter" from wriggling around.
