TREASURE CRAFT
Treasure Craft Co. was a California pottery company which began production in the 1940's and operated through most of the 1980's. The company is now owned by Pfaltzgraff.
As with most small ceramic products, the Treasure Craft "Sprite" items are generally unmarked and originally had paper labels. Paper labels are still found on many of the larger pieces. Treasure Craft Sprites are usually found in dark green and the popular chartreuse-yellow favored in the 1950's.
Sprite collectors can attest to the striking detail found on Treasure Craft Sprite clothing and the special look of the "TC Sprite" facial expression. Ears are pointed (as all true Sprite ears should be) and generally have incised inner markings on them; faces and hands are usually unglazed. The Sprites can be found as single figurines and also attached to various items such as planters and wall pockets. The planters and wall pockets feature various themes including the familiar Shoe Sprite and woodland-like stumps and logs. Once familiar with the TC Sprite's clothing styles, identification is easily made. Caps tend to extend upwards and are rather plain. Jackets are extremely detailed, often made of many over-lapping leaves. Collars are generally scalloped or may be made of leaves. Belts can look like rope or have a definite belt "buckle" -- either way, the costuming detail is quite unique.
The following information has been furnished to us by Valerie! What a great piece of information -- but I guess that means we have to start referring to this particular branch of the old Pixie Family Tree as the "Sprites"!! Valerie tells us that the little card was inside a Treasure Craft item that had been given to her. The small card measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and has a picture of a "Sprite" up in the corner and a tree. The card itself is printed in green and white (now yellowed with age). Our thanks to Valerie for sending this to us to share with everyone.
